Menlo Park Youth Poster Exhibition

Meta Open Arts in collaboration with Meta Community Engagement, the Menlo Park Library Foundation, and the Menlo Park Library district, organized a Poster Exhibition themed “My Community” called upon local youth to envision and affirm their community through poster art. A series of workshops were held at the Belle Haven Library, including Risograph printing 101 (with Kevin VQ Dam), Illustrating Your Community (with Alexandra Bowman), Changing Your World through Public Posters (with Lena Wolff), and Constructing High Contrast Paper Cut Posters (with Miriam Klein Stahl). Invitations to participate were sent to every address in the library district and posters were mounted at all K-12 schools.

An artist reception was organized, where all poster submissions were displayed, and where the winners and honorable mentions received poster packs from the Mayor of Menlo Park. An award ceremony was also organized at the Menlo Park City Council, where the youth were able to present both their art and their messages about their community to the council and the mayor. All of the posters were displayed in a rotating exhibit throughout all the district’s libraries.
