Suminagashi

Suminagashi is the Japanese art of floating ink on water for the purpose of creating mono prints on paper or fabric. As a practice it captures all of the senses, drawing the artist into relationships with the elements of air, water, and earth. The alluvial quality of the ink on the surface of the water is evocative of natural phenomena ranging from geological formations and satellite images to cell structures and material textures.
